TLC with a twist

How do you show up when you attend a training course?

Training is good, Learning is better, Commitment takes you to the next level.

We’ve probably all had enough of TLAs (or three letter acronyms) - but just in case you haven’t,  I’ve come up with a new twist on TLC.

  • T is for Training. I’ve attended a lot of training.  Some of it I’ve loved, some of it has been as dull as ditch water.  Some of it I’ve found relevant and applicable, some of it has been a complete waste of time.

  • L is for Learning.  For training to be really useful, there has to be learning. The people attending the training course have to absorb what the trainer has to offer and start to understand how they can apply their new skills when they leave the zoom session or the classroom.

  • C is for Commitment.  For training and learning to make a real difference to the individual there needs to be commitment to have a go and apply the new-found skills.

The perfect recipe for success are:

  • The right topics for you

  • A good trainer who engages their audience

  • A good learner who is open-minded and wants to commit to something new and different

If you are attending a training course here are 3 tips to help you move to the next level:

  • Make sure the training is relevant for what you want to do

  • Challenge yourself to be open-minded and move out of your comfort zone  - actively participate

  • Commit to applying what you’ve learned to your boss or a colleague, have a go, make mistakes and ask for feedback
